Choosing a Hotel Lock System

Hotel and motel front office staff are trained to know about the importance of hotel lock boxes. These boxes are placed in various locations throughout the hotel or motel and should be used whenever a hotel guest leaves their key behind for the night. This ensures that if a criminal is able to get into the hotel room they will not be able to find the hotel key as well as access to all of the rooms that the keys to.

Unfortunately, many times a hotel locks system will not be able to identify a hotel key. At this time the only way to determine whether or not your hotel key is in someone else's pocket or in the hotel safe is by asking them to show you the hotel key. Many times if you ask the hotel front desk clerk they will simply hand you over the hotel key. At this time you need to remember that it is very possible for a hotel key to be stolen in this manner. It is important that you never hand over a hotel key or have it on you unless you are absolutely positive that the hotel has a locks system in place.

If a hotel locks system is not working properly you may have to look elsewhere to get the hotel key you need. Sometimes this can be as simple as asking a guest in your hotel if they know where the key to your hotel is. Sometimes this can be easier said than done. In some cases it may even be necessary to contact the local law enforcement authorities. In most instances, though if you ask the correct questions and make reasonable inquiries a guest should be able to help you out. If a guest cannot provide you with the information you need then you should try to find out why from the front desk.

As long as you remain polite and friendly when asking a guest in your hotel about the location of the hotel key you should have no problem getting the information you need. Once you have the information then you should check with the hotel locks department to see what the next steps are. Most hotels offer a complimentary key for any of their hotels. If the hotel locks department does not offer you a complimentary key then you should ask them if they do sell them or not.

When it comes to choosing a locks system you have several different options. There are keyless deadbolts, locks that are keyed with a thumb turn and even electronic systems. With any of these locks you want to make sure that they are high security. You also want to make sure that your system can withstand whatever punishment the front desk may decide to implement while you are in the hotel.

The first thing that you want to do before you arrive in a hotel is to make sure that your hotel locks system is operational. You can do this by asking the front desk clerk or receptionist. If you have any additional questions you can always contact the front desk manager. Most of the time the front desk will be very helpful and able to give you any additional information that you might need.
